sweet poison
This work revisits the figure of Saint Sebastian by Carlo Dolci, exploring the emotional and symbolic intensity of the face.
The composition focuses on the force fields created around the eye and mouth, key areas of expression where tension and pain are perceived in every stroke. Through an intense chromatic contrast, the delicacy of the pink tones is combined with purple shadows and a green background, which enhance the drama and movement.
The work constructs a ‘geography of form’ where the directions fold in vertical movements, evoking the burden of myth and resistance.
This reinterpretation of San Sebastian creates a ‘plastic mass’ that moves between the earthly and the spiritual, making the character vibrate with an energy that surges and withdraws, both emotionally and physically.
